"Accessorator's Accessorations" are everywhere ......
even last night in Indianapolis .....

Award winning, London based, design duo
owner's of the avant-garde furniture company,
captured the attention of the more than
100 million viewers of Madonna's
half-time spectacular!!!!!

They were asked to design & create Madonna's
chariot-cum-podium-cum-throne
upon which she entered Lucas Oil Stadium!!!!

It was the ultimate "accessoration" .....
& Madonna is the ultimate fabulous entertainer!!!

But, the NY Giants win sent us over the moon!!!!
GO GIANTS!!!!

See you tomorrow at the parade!!!!!

The title of the show refers to Pensato's return
to her 1970's iconic Batman images.
They are the primary subject & inspiration
for this exhibition.

Of course, Batman does not go solo .....
by including her old favorites ....
Homer Simpson, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck
& a character she refers to as "The Juicer,"
Pensato continues her passion for
 iconic cartoon imagery.

Known for her strictly black, white & grey palette,
she has infused this exhibition with touches of color ......
& lots included of "stuff"!!!!

Showing her propensity for being an
"accessorator supreme",
Pensato incorporates various toys, objects, props,
& assorted ephemera from her studio .....
recreating the studio's environment
in Petzel's gallery.

I have always been a fan of Pensato's
"pop iconography",
but referencing her studio space
sends me into "accessorator heaven"!!!
DIVINE!!!!

Yesterday, I had a Tribeca jaunt with the ultimate
"seriously supreme accessorator"

Starting with lunch at the delicious new restaurant ....
"a modern Jewish America bistro,"
with the best matzoh ball soup & hot dogs in town,
from foodies Zach Kutsher, Alan Wilzig, Jeffrey Chodrow,
& Richard Kirshenbaum!!!!

Next was a visit to the stunning & stylish installation
at the historic New York Mercantile Exchange!!!!

This spectacular exhibition, a joint venture between
international galleries Marlborough & Steinitz,
was conceived & curated
by world renown architect, designer, & artist

"Le Cabinet de Curiosités" is presented in a series of
Second Empire rooms created by 18th century boiserie &
objects d'art shipped from Paris by Steinitz.

This unique installation of art, design, & antiquties
features sculptures & collages from
Spanish artist Manolo Valdés,
hyperrealist trompe l'oeil paintings by
Chilean painter Claudio Bravo,
and Despont's assemblage sculptures & paintings.

Reminiscent of Deyrolle's chic Paris taxidermy store &
Axel Vervoordt's Palazzo Fortuny exhibition
during the Venice Biennale .....
this installation is extraordinary & must not be missed!!!!
And it's been extended thru February!!!!

Italian fashion house Fendi sponsored
the "Design Performance" at Design/Miami 2011.

Fendi invited designer  Elisa Strozyk and
artist Sebastian Neeb to create this years project .....
"Craft Alchemy."

Collaborating to create a dream-like neoclassical interior,
inspired by Rome's historic Palazzo Fendi,
Stroykz & Neeb redesigned ornate 18th century furniture by
braiding, weaving, embossing, & sewing
discarded leather scraps from the Fendi factory.

The result is a divine collection of enchanted objects!!!!

Stroykz & Neeb also created delightful
"furniture marionettes,"
leather furniture created from Fendi scraps,
suspended from the ceiling by strings!!!

I also adored the "studio" the designers had set up .....
creating additional pieces & talking to fair visitors,
creating a  "furniture performance"!!!

Design/Miami's 2011 Designer of the Year
created "Genesis,"
a structure composed of hundreds of vertical pine planks,
to welcome visitors to Design/Miami
introduce his vision .....
regarding art, architecture, & design!!!

Called "a giant piece of architectural furniture" by Adjaye,
the stunning site specific pavillion
merges design & architecture, interior & exterior ......
creating a meditative space open to all visitors!!!

My friend, the glamorous "garden guru"
gave me the "dirt" on yesterday's "unknown accessoration"!!!

The divine red stiletto emerging from the sidewalk
in front of Bergdorf Goodman
is one in a collection of  "site specific" bike racks!!!

It was designed by musician David Byrne, an avid cyclist,
for the NYC Dept. of Transportation .........
in conjunction with Pace Gallery!!!

There's loads more information @ DavidByrne.com!!!

The strangest "street accessorations" are always in NYC .....
& this week's weirdest is this divine red stiletto,
emerging from the sidewalk in front of

Maybe it's a very chic Fifth Avenue bike rack ????
Nah, I don't think so!!!

What else could it be ....
Do you have any other ideas????

James Brett's Museum of Everything pop-up is extraordinary,
the "Store of Everything" is fantastic .......
but Selfridges "Windows of Everything" are the best!!!!!

Imagine devoting every window on Oxford Street,
a gigantic city block in London,
spanning the front of one of the world's greatest stores,
to "everything" that can't be sold!!!!

This is a phenomenal design installation,
and I applaud the Selfridges team for being sooooo brave!!!

This is a major tribute to the arts ....
but I can't help wondering,
who in NYC would ever be this brave?????

My friend, English artist Karen Ryan is probably one of the
most interesting and talented women I know!!!!

Her "Sit" chair project" for the 2011  London Design Festival
could not be found at any of the usual venues!!!!

"The "sit" chair project is an alternative response to London Design Week 2011. I have taken two chairs, one from my dinning room table and one from my bedroom, both of which had been previously discarded. I designed the "sit" brand for the use of these chairs, the brand identity is hand stamped upon a newly prepared surface area on each individual chair."

"Through mass consumerism we are used to looking at design as objects of desire fed by what is fashionable and are own delusions of need. I want to divert the gaze and alter the senses. I am taking both "sit"chairs out onto the streets and photographing people sitting on them with my mobil phone."

"I consider the "sit" chair project a relevant design and comment on contemporary furniture design today."
                                                                               - Karen Ryan -

I spent last Thursday evening with Karen,
walking around London's Brompton Design District!!!!

Being with Karen is always a brilliant treat for me ......
and I was beyond over--the-moon that
one of her chairs joined us!!!!!

A major highlight of the London Design Festival 2011,
this striking installation, "Timber Wave,"
created by AL_A Architects .......
in collaboration with structural engineers Arup,
is sited in front of the main entrance to London's V & A Museum!!!

The three-dimensional spiral, made from
oil-treated American red oak,
creates a stunning "doorway" into this extraordinary museum .....
which plays an integral part in the Festival.

LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton!!!!!

They are incredible pieces of sculpture ....
and could "accessorate" my garden any day!!!!

I don't exactly understand why KAWS'
 fiberglass sculpture .....
"Companion Passing Through"
is "accessroating" the front of The Standard Hotel,
in the Meat Packing District!!!!!!

But, it is!!!!

Why is that???

I love artist Sara Sze's installation,
"Still Life With Landscape (Model For A Habitat)"!!!

It is a divine addition to Section 2 of the High Line!!!

And the best part is that the birds love it too!!!

Excellent "accessorating" Sarah!!!

I love Jody Morlock's quirky & creative sculpture (blog1/27/10)!!!
And this installation at Todd English's Ça Va Restaurant
 is absolutely over-the-top!!!!

I was honored when Jody took a morning off from her day-job , she is the "make-up maven" at The Daily Show, and gave me a tour of her work which plays an integral part in this stunning restaurant, designed by Jeffrey Beers International. Beers, a collector of Jody's work, commissioned her to create the "art element" for the restaurant. By adding her eccentric twist to vintage and new cooking utensils, from juice presses & coffee pots to forks & wine corks ...... Jody has created a new world of "fantastical foodie sculptures!!!"

Jody describes her process far better than I can ...... "I have hungry eye, and when they are not busy devouring the colored world before me,my brain is busy cutting, rearranging, shaping, structuring, fusing, drawing, dreaming, and grouping the beauty and the chaos of this complicated world!!!"

Artist Brian Tolle's newest permanent site-specific sculpture, "Tempest," appears as an island of flowing of water, an oasis in front of Miami Beach's Bass Museum. Situated among a group of palm tress, in the newly refurbished Collins Park, Tolle has created a spiral maze of blue fiberglass waves, encapsulated by white powder coated aluminum. In addition to the movement created by sculpting the fiber glass, the artist asks the viewer to be an active participation in the piece's movement, by creating a maze. In addition to changing as people walk around it, at night the work takes a dramatic  and erie turn when the LED lights go on.

I am fascinated by Brian's public sculptures (blog 7/13/10).
His application of theme, his inspiration of time,
variety of materials, light, & space
all create innovative & interesting site-specific works.
