What is a MHOY?????

It's a "protest pet" designed by  Cyril Anguelidis
& a group of French graffiti artists!!
Beginning as sticker art in Paris, it has evolved
into this three dimensional, recycled,
poly resin sculpture!!!

Evoking the struggle for animal rights,
a MHOY may look like a loudspeaker but,
it is really a heart touching creature ....
who "protests in silence"!!!!

By adopting a MHOY, we recognize this struggle ......
5% of all sales go directly to PETA .......
a charity that fights for the dignity of all animals!!!

I bought a dozen to give to all my favorite
"animal loving accessorator's"!!!

Even children can be "accessorator's supreme"!!!
Isn't this kids furniture from
Little Nest sublime???
Modern classics inspired by the
chicest mid-century designers ......
How can you resist?????

Cordula Kehrer's "Bow Bins"
at Areaware are still one of the
most interesting products at the fair!!!
Made by the Aeta people, of the Phillpines, from
sustainably harvested rattan,
their sales "gives back" to the community ......
and they look sooo chic too!!!!

Always a tabletop junkie .....
I found these fabulous cotton printed tablecloths
& matching napkins at Funktion.
The cloths are available in two sizes,
60" x 60" & 72" x 90".
I often mix up my dish patterns &
I think I might mix up the napkin patterns too!!!
Trés chci!!!!

My friend Jackie Shapiro uses her spectacular eye
 for pattern & color
to add innovative products to her
French Bull collection.
These new reusable coffee mugs
elevate "take-out" coffee to a new level!!!

Another old favorite of mine,
these hand embroidered 'location pillows"
from Cat Studio looked very fresh again this week!!!!
Maybe they have crossed over into the new category .......
"accessorator classics"!!!!

San Francisco based Lunares, owned by Nima Oberoi,
is one of the most "color infused"
home collections at the NY Gift Show!!!
I love these "ice cream pints" & ordered every color ...
one for each of my favorite ice cream flavors!!!
And how divine are the individual scoops
that are attached to each pint!!!

As usual candles were everywhere ....
but "la chiens" from Bougies la Française
were the sweetest puppies I met!!!
What a match ....
puppies + candles + great color = Spring 2012!!!!
So on trend!!!!

My fabulous fashion friends Whitney & Marc
managed to snare me this divine birthday present!!!!!

The first Gaga snow globe sold at Barneys NYC
& the first Gaga's Workshop Christmas shopping bag ......
allowed to leave the store!!!!

It's good to have friends in high places!!!!!

Tonight at 11:59 PM Barneys NYC is opening ......
and unveiling their Gaga Christmas windows!!!

The windows are going to over-the-top,
and the shop is going to be 'gaga-licious" .....
with divine & decadent Gaga goodies!!!

And remember ......
25% of all sales in the workshop are donated to Gaga's
dedicated to empowering youth & inspiring bravery.

I would suggest making an immediate beeline to Barney's ...
before everything is gone!!!!

I think it 2011 is definitely going to be a very Gaga Christmas!!!!

Every NYC design junkie knows "accessorator favorite"
Kevin Brynan & Bill Cleary's
a Greenwich Street design tradition!!!!

But, if you happen to walk past it by mistake,
these divine yarn wrapped construction poles scream ....
"look at me"!!!

The store windows and the poles celebrate
a unique collection of creatures called
"JouJou" dolls!!!

This bevy of colorful knit beauties
are handmade by a Haitian women's cooperative,
from recycled and donated yarns ....
it's a fabulous project!!!

And, in addition to paying the woman a fair wage,
one dollar from the sale of each doll
goes back to the coop .....
helping to empower the women's self sufficiency!!!!

P.S. ACCESSORATOR"S NEWS FLASH .....
Congratulations to Kevin and Bill
who opened a second
last week, in Jersey City!!!!

Raising over $700,000.00 for NYC's at-risk youth
at Good Shepherd Services benefit,
planned by the supreme "accessorator" Isaac Mizrahi!!!!!

Sitting on pink ballroom chairs, at tables dressed in pink cloths, "accessorated" with Preston Bailey's divinely decadent floral poodles, dinning on a  delicious dinner orchestrated by super-chef Mario Batali & dancing to great music under the glow of pink lights  ........ Board Member, Isaac Mizrahi "designed" the perfect 1st Annual Spring Party for Good Shepherd Services!!!!!

Good Shepherd Services is a "social service and youth development agency serving at-risk New York City children and their families through a network of supports that promote a safe passage to self- sufficiency." Director Sister Paulette Lo Monaco and her staff do amazing work, achieving incredible results ....... as Isaac said, "supporting our young people is all of our responsibility!!!!"

My friend Minette's car had this fabulous vanity plate ...
and divine "auto accessoration"!!!

The state of Colorado has made available 3,000 of these divine "Adopt A Shelter Pet" license plates. They have been on sale since Jan. 3, 2011, at local DMV's. $30 of each plate is given to Colorado shelters & rescues. The purpose of the plate is "to raise awareness for the need to adopt shelter pets and raise much needed funding, so that these animals will find loving, forever homes."

This is a brilliant idea & I would do anything to get this plate ....
maybe, even move back to Aspen!!!!!

Let's start a petition to make this plate available everywhere!!!

I adore creative ways of "giving back" ....... and this is a fantastic example
of an iconic brand's concern for the arts!!!

Keds has commissioned conceptual artist Jenny Holzer to design a collection of Keds based on her signature word-based art. The collection features classic canvas sneakers ..... black, grey, or white colors ..... low and hi-top silhouettes ...... with the text "PROTECT ME FROM WHAT I WANT." The sale of these sneakers is part of Keds sponsorship of the Whitney Museum of Art's summer program.

I must have these immediately ....... you too??????

I paid another visit to Merci (blog 11/11/09) and again was very take with
Marie-France & Bernard Cohen's creative concept of "giving back."

My favorite thing on this visit was this divinely designed dinnerware by French product designer Jean Marc Gady. Attaching a series of different size white porcelain plates creates a wonderful venue for a meal of "small plates" or tapas, a trend that is very au courant and exactly how I love to eat!!!!

I love the idea that Merci features a collection of different products
on every  visit ............  from fashion to home & more!!!!

One of the most extraordinary, interesting, and memorable "accessorations" I have seen lately is CASTAWAYS, a collection of kits designed to help kids create art. Each kit is a collection of various recycled cardboard pieces, taken from safe and clean manufacturing castoffs, packaged together for children to create individual "artworks" and to learn about ecology!!!!

The kits are charming and I love the shapes & colors of the elements, but what is really, really most  impressive is why they were created .............They are a fund raising tool for Trash For Teaching, a Los Angeles based not-for-profit organization started in 2004 by Steve & Kathy Stanton. Parents of a young son, the Stanton's saw the wonderful, creative objects he had made at school from disguarded materials. They began to think about all of the salvageable materials available from their own box manufacturing business and how the "stuff" could be used creatively by kids .......  and they came up with this brilliant idea to give back to the community!!! They started a foundation which "collects clean and safe cast-off materials from trash manufacturing processes (that would otherwise become trash) and repurposes them as educational resources." By repurposing waste, they created an environmentally based program that treats children to an incredible arts education, including  materials, workshops and teacher visits. The project features Treasure Trucks, former U.S. Postal trucks that have been redesigned as a moving arts workshops ..... they even run on vegetable oil collected from local restaurants!!! Traveling between schools, filled with discarded "stuff" these trucks, or art classrooms, are a never ending source of delight to children!!!

"Trash for Teaching is a not-for-profit dedicated to environmental awareness and education through creative reuse. By making materials readily available to schools and teachers, we bridge the gap between the excess of waste created in manufacturing processes and the lack of materials in public education. Use of our materials also encourages critical thinking and stimulates the imagination by challenging children and teachers to find creative applications for non-traditional objects."

Leave it to the French to come up with an amazing way to say "thank you," and create a wonderful shopping experience as well!!!! Marie-France & Bernard Cohen, founders of the French cult children's brand Bonpoint, opened Merci this past spring in the Marais district of Paris, "combining fashion with philanthropy, vintage with contemporary design and bespoke creations with mainstream brands." Housed in a 16,000 sq. foot former wallpaper factory, this industrial space features an innovative and interesting treasure trove of "everything" from fashion to furnishing!!!!  Merci, created by the Cohen's as their personal "thank you," donates 100% of its profits to a charity that helps deprived children in India and Madagascar. Having traveled extensively in that area of the world, Madame Cohen was extremely touched by the lack of education for these children and she made herself promise to help them. To achieve this goal, the Cohen's used their retail talents and vision to create this unique shopping experience. "Merci is accessible to anyone with an eye for the unusual and the bespoke."

This extraordinary philanthropic endeavor has gotten an incredible response from the designers, artists, musicians, actors, authors, stylists, and famous friends that the Cohen's went to for help. In addition to donations and the specially designed merchandise that is found only at the store, there is a continuously changing selection of eclectic, well designed product from French companies and various interesting flea market finds. Joining the Cohen's in their generosity, many of the designers and companies involved are also forgoing their profits, resulting in the price of the merchandise being 30% below traditional retail. In addition to gifts, clothing, accessories, and furnishing...... there is "Merci Fleur,'' a flower shop featuring florist Christian Tortu and the "Used Book Cafe" with a 130 foot rolling book wall of donated second hand books. Another wonderful feature is a selection of six scents from perfumeur Annick Goutal (Annick is Mdme. Cohen's late sister)  that are being sold in simple glass or aluminum containers like those used by perfumemakers in Grasse, rather than their classical decorative flasks, and aptly called "Merci Annick."

"Christmas at Merci" features a well curated holiday collection of accessories and apparel; as well as gifts from international designers such as Tom Dixon, Patricia Urquiola, Atelier, and Droog; plus a wide selection of one-off pieces, vintage items, and unique holiday creations designed exclusively for the store. An intriguing  selection of vintage Christmas ornaments and decorations completes the eclectic holiday assortment.

"Giving Back," the theme at Merci, doesn't have a season and is something that we all need to remember every day. This store is an amazing concept and one that I hope will translate everywhere .... I applaud Madame and Monsieur Cohen for their generosity of spirit and say "merci beaucoup" to them!!!!
