Jody Morlock Celebrates Art & Cooking @ Ça Va!!!

I love Jody Morlock's quirky & creative sculpture (blog1/27/10)!!!

And this installation at Todd English's Ça Va Restaurant

is absolutely over-the-top!!!!

I was honored when Jody took a morning off from her day-job , she is the "make-up maven" at The Daily Show, and gave me a tour of her work which plays an integral part in this stunning restaurant, designed by Jeffrey Beers International. Beers, a collector of Jody's work, commissioned her to create the "art element" for the restaurant. By adding her eccentric twist to vintage and new cooking utensils, from juice presses & coffee pots to forks & wine corks ...... Jody has created a new world of "fantastical foodie sculptures!!!"

Jody describes her process far better than I can ...... "I have hungry eye, and when they are not busy devouring the colored world before me,my brain is busy cutting, rearranging, shaping, structuring, fusing, drawing, dreaming, and grouping the beauty and the chaos of this complicated world!!!"

Mike Bouchet's "Argento Libre" @ Cumulus Studios!!!!!

Nathalie Karg's Cumulus Studios, known for it's collaborations with contemporary artists to create functional outdoor objects (blog 8/26/09, 12/8/09, 12/22/10), is presenting their newest designs at Design Basel next month.

This collection is created by sculptor Mike Bouchet, who has taken the ultimate consumer object, a shopping cart, and altered it to create the ultimate leisure object ...... a sun lounger!!! Bending the front and back panels of the shopping cart backwards or forwards, cutting the sides off, and re-mounting the child's seat as a head rest has resulted in this wonderful "chaise sculpture." The zinc- plated steel chair also comes a weatherproof foam cushion upholstered in a print designed by the artist.

In addition, there are four other designs available, each intended to add a different level of comfort and functionality. They include the chaise lounge with an umbrella, an armless chaise, a double chaise or love seat, a side table, and one with a speaker attached to connect an iPod.

This past weekend I went on a magical mystery tour

of Dianne B's East Hampton fantasy garden!!!!

It was absolutely delightful!!!!

Brooklyn based artist Wang Jinsheng's "Gypsy Wheel"

speaker system played beautiful music at the

International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC this week!!!

Salvaged tires fitted with speaker cones, mounted to drum kit hardware, plus bicycle components, break levers, calipers, a turntable & amplifier are combined to create this amazing bespoke sound sculpture. According to the artist, he designed the piece for bars and restaurants, but after the enthusiastic response it got this week, it is available by comission for your home!!!!

I think this is a fabulous "accessoration"!!!

ICFF Inaugurates Urban Zen Furniture Collection!!!

The inaugural Urban Zen Collection created a great buzz at NYC's

International Contemporary Furniture Fair!!!

Dominic Kozerski & Enrico Bonetti of Bonetti/Kozerski Studio are the design guru's behind Donna Karan's first Urban Zen furniture collection. Designing the handmade furniture from Bali, created from natural materials indigenous to the country, the duo have worked closely with Karan for a number of years and are apt at interpreting her thoughts, ideas, and concepts. Transitioning Karan's well known black and neutral palette, the designers have stained native Balinese teak almost jet black. And their collection of unique tables from gnarled tree trunks and roots is pure Karan!!! Natural and black linen is the primary textile for upholstery, and woven stripes and tie-dye effects are used for creating patterns.

The over-all effect of this stunning zen-like collection

is sophisticated and chic ........

creating a soothing life-style environment,

definitely infused with the spirit of the divine Donna Karan!!!

Every spring weird & wonderful "accessorations" appear

in my hip new neighborhood .....Chelsea!!!

Nobody ever claims ownership ....

and the oddities disappear as fast as they appear!!!

Yesterday I found this voodoo-like totem!!!!

The question is ....... is it good voodoo or bad????

I guess we'll know soon!!!

Mark Grotjahn Paintings @ Anton Kern Gallery, NYC!!!

California artist Mark Grotjahn's monumental exhibition Faces is a continuation of his exploration of the "simple geometric structure of eyes, nose, and mouth." These tactile paintings, a series of layers of built-up ropy lines of polychromatic color, reflect his return to color after his 2007 series of monochromatic Butterfly paintings. According to the press release .... "These new paintings demonstrate that the spirit of the face-wild, untamed, animalistic, free and limitless- motivates the artist's entire oeuvre."

Undoubtably, these nine extraordinarily beautiful paintings

reinforce Grotjahn's position as a major force

in the contemporary art world ......
