HEATH NASH, FULLCOLOURFORM BALL

Employing the common and often necessary African tradition of re-using waste, South African designer Heath Nash has created an award winning light fixture, made from re-cycled bottles and other plastics. It won Finland's Habitare Ecodesign Prize, judged by world renown lighting designer Ingo Maurer. Nash won for his use of re-cycled materials and because he incorporated his local community by employing people to pick up and sort the plastic. Each piece is unique based on the combinations of the colors of the refuse.

TWO'S COMPANY BOOTH @ GIFT SHOW 2010!!!!

I found this re-cycled plastic bottle light fixture at the Spring NYIGF Show.....
It was hanging above the Two's Company booth .....
I asked if it was for sale & was told it was for display only .... such a shame!!!!

I think it fabulous idea ....... has a great look & is ecologically inspired .......
I am horrified by the islands of plastic that inhabit our oceans and poison our fish!!!

Now a Pellegrino bottle lable at Sistina restaurant in New York City & it's really, real!!!!

This bottle was at the next table, they left ...... I grabbed it!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE ...... Now, I know it's a trend!!!

MINI.JPG
Paul Smith's limited edition Mini Cooper arriving stateside in Las Vegas!!!

Paul's "dream-machine's" exterior is covered with Smith's signature stripes and the interior has pops of color like a suit lining!!! In addition, the glove compartment and boot are lined in lime green..... so chic!!  The Mini left London for Vegas, then it's heading to LA, and finally a cross country trip to the Paul Smith store on Greene Street in NYC ...... a must see!!!

As usual the "accessorator" is tickled by Paul Smith's logo stripe .......
How fabulous to tool around East Hampton in this chic car!!!!
It would look soooo divine in my driveway!!!

Currently for the London Design Festival, British designer Stuart Haygarth has installed picture frame "cut-offs" on either side of a marble staircase at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Titled "Framed," the installation is created from frame pieces supplied by London framer John James. Creating a zig-zag pattern, the piece takes me back to the frame wall I saw  in Atlanta last week (see blog 9/16/10).

Suddenly I am seeing frame bits everywhere ...........
a trend perhaps??????

Tables & Chairs, new contemporary voices in wood, is an exhibition presented by the Crafts Council in partnership with tastemaker Priscilla Carluccio at her store Few & Far. It is part of the London Design Festival and shows the wide scope of contemporary design through the work of 12 furniture makers, including mid-career designers and recent graduates.

"All the work on show has been made in 2009 or 2010 and these new voices challenge our ideas and preconceptions of what tables and chairs look like and how they are made. These makers marry wood with ceramic, create optical illusions and combine the computer, the laser and the hand to produce pieces that range from the playful and humorous to those that push the boundaries of their material through design and skill."

I adore Few & Far .... Priscilla's eye for design is stunning!!!!
And the reverence for the art of craft by the Crafts Council is fantastic!!!!
This exhibition is a must see for anyone in London this week!!

One of the foremost design stores in London, Mint, is presenting an exhibition titled 'Homeworks' this week. Showcasing works from over 40 designers "which reinvent or transform everyday objects into captivating and provocative home pieces." Complementing the installation, they have commissioned 13 emerging designers to re-work  13 identical vintage 1950's Danish chairs from a shipyard canteen.

The chairs are amazing  and I can't pick a favorite .......
do you think it's possible to add another 13 chairs to my living room???

Johnson Banks have asked an eclectic collection of 10 creative English taste-makers to take a "journey" through the V&A Museum to select their favorite "things." The result is ten individual be-spoke maps to help visitors pinpoint V&A highlights. The idea is brilliant and the execution flawless ..... the use of the unusual fold creating the illusion of many pieces of paper is fantastic.

The stunning maps are works of art and treasures ..........
and of course, I must have each one!!!!

A must-have book for any "accessorator's" library .......
not only is it beautifully executed ....
but it contains extraordinary information!!!!

This book was published to accompany the exhibition The New Décor at the Hayward Gallery in London. The exhibition and book "surveys artworks that revisit and reinvent those most familiar objects in our lives - including chairs, tables, sofas, lamps, beds, and doors - in order to explore and question the attitudes with which we furnish our sense of place in the world."  Using the vocabulary of interior design as a point of departure, 36 contemporary artists from 22 countries have rethought the decoration of our everyday environments through sculpture and installation.

I must admit to having a number of copies ......
so let me know if you can't find it!!!!!

As impossible as it may seem, today is the 9th anniversary of 9/11 ......

This corner, a chain link fence at 7th Avenue & 11th Street in New York City, celebrates the men and women who perished on that day. Tiles For America, a collection of thousands of tiles is the result of "ceramic studios around the world joining together to offer a creative outlet to the people of out nation."  The artists come from around the world; families, children, schools, church groups, scouts, and seniors ..... all "reflecting the artists' thoughts of sadness and hope in the face of this American tragedy and one again, shows that the American people will pull together in times of national disaster."

When I saw this 6 months ago I thought it was extraordinary ......
and I knew the time would come to share it.
