Performa 09, the third edition of the internationally acclaimed biennial of new visual performance art, will be held in New York City From November 1 - 22, 2009. Performance art plays an intregal part of the history of twentieth century art. This festival features the largest, and most spectacular exhibition of innovative, exciting performance work from over 150 international. contemporary artists. Included are 11 Performa Commissions and 6 Performa Premiers, in addition to 110 events in collaboration with more than 60 of the cities art institutions. The biennial is an "extraordinary performance-driven festival as think tank that will be a catalyst for envisioning the cultural future of New York City." According to its director, RoseLee Goldberg ........."Performa 09 will demonstrate that there is no such thing an intellectual or creative recession!"
Artists include Candice Breitz, Fischerspooner, Guy Ben-Ner, Joan Jonas, Kalup Linzy, Mike Kelley, Omer Fast, William Kentridge, Terrance Koh, Tacita Dean, Wangechi Mutu, Yeondoo Jung, and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster........
