In her graduate show at the Royal Academy, ceramicist Katharine Morling has made an enormous transition from her previous work. She has moved from classical, yet whimsical, elaborate, colorful, fantasy pieces to these "sketch works." According to Katharine, "I have brought some of my drawings alive, from a flat surface to three dimensions, creating illusion and suggesting narrative." The rough edges of the black "drawing," in strong contrast to the matte white clay, uniquely combines the world of line with that of form. I adore both drawings and ceramics, so for me the result of this exaggerated new configuration of form is both innovative and intriguing.

"Using the every day domestic objects and re-present them in a slightly warped light, I wish to invite questions of 'life with objects.' With uncertainties over their materiality and function, by alluding to stories held in the essence of the object my hope is to ignite questions."

Katharine's aesthetic reminds me why I had a store/gallery.....and today I want it back!!!!
